Heavy Design Creates a Rich Sound

HD Series Bb Trumpets offer musicians an elegant and rich orchestral tone with superb intonation. Custom built to the highest quality by Schilke tradition, this design provides musicians with a truly gorgeous sound.

The HD designs begin with a heavier version of the standard Schilke valve section along with a redesigned leadpipe and tuning slide with slightly heavier material. Finally finishing the model with a newly designed one-piece bell in various bell shapes to create a rich, dark sound overall. HD trumpets are offered in silver plate, 24K gold plate and lacquer finishes.

S43HDL-F Faddis Model

The S43HDL-F Faddis Model was designed for legendary jazz artist, musician, conductor, composer and educator Jon Faddis. It is built with our HD valve section, which is heavier in mass at the center of the trumpet. No nibs on the second slide, no water key on the main tuning slide, heavy valve caps, and adjustable soundpost. The S43HDL-F is available by special order with an optional bell crown that provides more core to the sound with increased resonance.

Schilke HDII Artist Series

The Schilke HDII Artist Series Bb trumpet builds on the success of the HD Series. Created for Schilke Artist Jack Sutte of the Cleveland Orchestra, the HDII-JS models offer a redesigned non-reverse leadpipe and mouthpiece receiver as well as updated bell construction. The leadpipe offers a balanced feel with outstanding articulation. The updated bell design creates a warm, powerful tone. The HDII-JS also includes special designed bracing, a 3rd slide removable end crook and a uniquely placed 3rd slide stop to allow the instrument to play a low F when adjusted.

Bell Material

All HD Series Bb Trumpets come standard with a heavyweight yellow brass bell. Yellow brass bells are more consistent in tonal color regardless of dynamics. Optional gold brass bells are higher in copper content than yellow brass bells. HD gold brass bells offer a darker tone than yellow brass. Darker in timbre in softer dynamics and brighter in louder dynamics, these bells “zing” when playing ff.

Tuning Bells

Detachable tuning bells are standard on the S43HDL-F Faddis model and are available by special order on any other HD Series Bb Trumpet. The advantage of the tuning bell feature is that the tuning slide can be left all the way in or moved only a little, thereby keeping the bore relatively free of gaps that may cause a disturbance in the nodal pattern of the sound wave. Another advantage is that different bells of varying tapers, materials and finishes may be used to change characteristics of the instrument.
