Lemar Guillary
Lemar Guillary, a professional trombonist from Los Angeles, CA, has performed and recorded with numerous acts from chart toppers such as Robin Thicke and Jennifer Hudson, to Jazz Legends: Reggie Workman and Charles Tolliver. A byproduct of L.A’s multi-faceted music styling’s and a musically inclined family—Lemar 26, began his journey to a professional music career humbly with nothing more than a borrowed trombone and a supportive family.
His journey began in 1997 at age fifteen after joining his high school marching band, which lead to a five-year stint in the USC marching band, wherein he performed with acts such as: System of the Down, Offspring, Cool & The Gang, Outkasts (Andre 3000) and George Clinton. He performed on various shows including: The Best Damn Sport’s Show. The Wayne Brady Show, the 2004 Grammys, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture at the Hollywood Bowl, as well as numerous FOX Sports & ESPN commercials, one of which he played the staring role.
Lemar relocated to New York City in 2006, where he became a regular on the Jazz scene following acceptance into the Jazz Studies program at The New School, where he was mentored by Jazz greats: Vincent Gardner, Charley Persip and Junior Mance. In December 2008 he joined a long list of great jazz musicians to graduate from the prestigious program. After becoming a known name on the New York Jazz scene, Lemar returned to the west coast, where upon he began working with Grammy Award winning mavens Robin Thicke and Jennifer Hudson.As the trombonist and section leader for the Robin Thicke band, Lemar has toured nationally and internationally from Detroit to Kazakhstan. Performing and touring with Robin Thicke and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson opened doors to performances with: Jennifer Holiday, Fantasia, Chaka Kahn, Big Jim Wright (Music Director for the Mo’Nique Show), Kid Kudi, The Game, Raphael Saadiq, Earth Wind & Fire, Nikki Minaj, Bilal, LMFAO and a host of other accomplished artists.
In 2009 Lemar appeared on several television shows including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, Ellen, Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Late Night with David Letterman, Good Morning America, Dick Clarks Rockin’ New Years Special, The Essence Festival, and Carson Daily. Lemar was recently invited to join the house band for the Maya Rudolph Show which is lead by Raphel Saadiq. Lemar, also a music-recording producer, produced tracks for upcoming R&B artist, Jesse Boykins.
In 2010, Lemar was presented with many more performance, production and business opportunities. He performed with: Busta Rhymes, P. Diddy, T. Pain, Rick Ross, Motley Crew’s–Tommy Lee, Ludacris and gospel artists Donnie McClurkin and Israel Haughton. In August of 2010 Lemar opened his own music recording studio in Hollywood, CA where he works on projects with both experienced and up and coming musicians. Lemar recently Cowrote “Living In New York” on the Robin Thicke album Paula. Lemar is quickly becoming one of the most visible trombonists in the mainstream of the music industry. With so many accomplishments, accolades and milestones crossed, Lemar is determined not to rest upon his laurels. He has pursued a career as a solo artist and music producer, as evidenced by his first credit recognition on Robin Thicke’s “Sexy Therapy” LP.
